Combining beauty and symbolism, this Japanese Kimono Robe was inspired by one of Kyoto's most memorable summer traditions: the Daimonji Festival.
Luxurious Cotton Sateen
Made in Japan of from premium sateen, a 100% cotton fabric with a special satin weave that gives it a silky-smooth feel, beautiful drape, and subtle sheen. It is soft against the skin while retaining the natural breathability and comfort of cotton. Slightly heavier than traditional cotton weaves, sateen also resists wrinkles and has a wonderfully smooth, elegant finish.
Each year during O-Bon, five enormous bonfires are illuminated on the mountains surrounding Kyoto. Beginning at 8 p.m., the fires create distinctive characters and shapes across the mountainsides. The most famous, and the first to be lit, is the dai character on Daimonji-yama.
Traditionally, O-Bon is a time when the spirits of departed family members are believed to return to the world of the living. The lighting of the fires marks their farewell as they return to the spirit world.
