Step into the quiet elegance of traditional Japanese footwear with these handcrafted Setta Japanese sandals.
Designed for comfort, practicality, and refined everyday wear, Setta combine the timeless look of woven tatami rush with a cushioned, flexible sole and a traditional fabric thong.
Unlike wooden geta, Setta are flat, lightweight, and pleasantly quiet, producing only a soft click as you walk. Their understated profile makes them equally at home with a traditional yukata or kimono-inspired ensemble, as well as with modern casual clothing.
Genuine Japanese Tatami Rush
Each pair features a genuine Japanese tatami rush grass footbed, traditionally woven by skilled Japanese craftsmen. The natural rush provides excellent breathability, helping keep your feet comfortable and less stuffy during warm summer weather. The subtle, soothing aroma of the rush grass is a reminder of the natural materials and craftsmanship that go into each pair.
The footbed is layered over a cushioned construction and finished with a water-resistant vinyl/EVA sole. The underside features wave-like ridges to provide additional traction, while the flexible EVA material is gentle enough for indoor floors as well as outdoor wear.
Comfort Meets Traditional Style
Setta were developed as a practical alternative to traditional wooden geta and straw zori. Their quiet, comfortable construction makes them especially suitable for environments where wooden footwear can be noisy or cumbersome, such as walking through teahouse gardens.
The approximately 1 1/4-inch raised heel provides a comfortable, gently graduated profile from toe to heel. The raised heel also helps keep the foot more securely positioned on the sandal.
For an authentic Japanese wearing style, Setta are traditionally worn with a small amount of heel overhang; approximately 1–2 cm (about 1/2 inch). This iki styling also helps shift the center of gravity forward and can reduce the characteristic slapping sound that occurs when the sandal comes completely off the heel.
Important fit note: The thong is positioned in the traditional center of the sandal rather than offset like a modern flip-flop. This places the foot farther back on the footbed, so the sandal will feel shorter than a standard 28 cm shoe. Please review the measurements carefully before ordering.

Because each pair is individually handcrafted, the pattern of the nose strap may not be perfectly symmetrical, and the placement of the pattern may vary slightly from pair to pair. These natural variations are part of the character of quality handmade Japanese footwear.
Please note: No returns or exchanges. Due to the traditional construction and sizing characteristics of Setta, we recommend reviewing all measurements and fit information before purchasing.
